One of the biggest problems of the 21st century is that we establish lies to support truth. Why build a lie even when the truth is so much obvious and can be accepted? I believe this is one of the major reasons that people have stopped believing in truth. For example, I have observed as a professional that there is a huge number of people that are climate science sceptics these days. The problem arose back when climate scientists denied that climate change can occur naturally. Later, they manipulated and exaggerated data for their own good. And eventually, people stopped believing them. Now these points could have been supported with fact and the need to make lies was unnecessary, but it was done anyway. And all of this led to a bigger problem than ever before.
